Yellow is the color of the warm sun, blooming dandelions, ripe bananas, sparkling gold not suppose to be the color of your TEETH! Yellow stains can stand between you and that perfect pearly white smile. The causes of yellow teeth are vast and varied, however, can often be resolved with changes in your lifestyle, teeth whitening kits and or bleaching products provided by your dentist.
It may sound simple, but its true. Plaque can build up on your teeth and make them look yellow or spotty. However, it can be quickly transformed with brushing. Dentists recommend brushing after every meal and flossing.
The yellowing of your teeth may be inescapable due to your genetics and family history. Some people’s enamel has a naturally yellow hue, and others may have genetic disorders that effect color of teeth. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, dentinogenesis imperfecta and amelogenesis imperfecta turns your teeth yellow.
Food and Drink Stains
Foods such as berries, popsicles, beets and drinks such as pop, coffee and tea, are high in dyes, may stain your teeth yellow. Brushing after eating and or drinking these foods can limit the appearance of such food-based stains.
Smoking has many bad effects. According to the National Institutes of Health, smoking tobacco products like cigarettes and cigars can cause your teeth to turn yellow. The chemicals in tobacco smoke causes a buildup of stains as well as the tar and nicotine.
If you eliminate these causes of yellow teeth and you still don’t have that sparkling white smile, discuss with your dentist to find other options.
