What are power chains?
Power chains are made of the same type of elastic material as the elastic ligatures. Power chains are like a bunch of ligatures linked together, just to give you a visual. An orthodontist will place them on your teeth, forming a continuous band, from one tooth to the next. Just so you can prepare yourself, when you first get them put on, they do make your teeth ache. However, if you have already had braces for a few months, the pain should subside usually around a week.
Why would you need power chains? The most common reason a patient would need a power chain is to close a gap between your teeth. The power chain applies extra force and help move your teeth faster.
For some people powers after their power chains are put in, the see dramatic changes in a few week. Others it can take six months. Each person is different, so even if you do not see it closing right away, doesn’t mean it won’t close.
