Burleson Orthodontics is always thrilled when patients become members of our orthodontic family.  Even when they are finished with treatment and grow up and begin their adult lives, we still consider them family.

Brothers Grayson and Galen Gist are two former orthodontic patients who are now serving our country with confidence, and we could not be prouder. Both were scholars and athletes at their respective high schools, graduates of the International Baccalaureate programs, and lettermen in academics and sports, including football, wrestling, and golf. Both chose elite career paths that will further protect our nation and its military.

Lieutenant Grayson Gist graduated from the United States Air Force where he held multiple leadership positions. Today, he is one of the few pilots assigned to fly the B-52 stealth bomber at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.

2nd Lieutenant Galen Gist graduated Magna Cum Laude from Simpson College where he also captained the football team. He now attends Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, the military’s elite academy, which prepares physicians to serve the armed forces.

A History of Service

Many who know the Gist brothers aren’t surprised at their choice of careers. Their family has a history of service to our country dating back to pre-colonial times. Captain Christopher Gist was a British explorer who settled in the Baltimore, MD area around 1650, and whose son Richard, also a Captain and a Surveyor, was the first to plat the city of Baltimore. Richard passed his surveying skills on to his son Christopher, who then taught the art to George Washington. Christopher also served as Washington’s main scout during the French and Indian War. In fact, there are some accounts that say Christopher saved Washington’s life twice:  once from a hostile Indian attack and another from an almost-drowning.

The Gist family history is truly one of service, courage, and leadership. Every one of their relatives, from grandparents to uncles and aunts – except for one – served as officers during World War II. As a B-52 bomber pilot, Grayson follows the path of an uncle who was lost on a mission in Japan while commandeering a B-29 Superfortress.

Here at Burleson Orthodontics, we are proud to serve those who serve our country. We salute Grayson and Galen Gist and wish them the greatest success as they pursue their careers.

Former patients, they remain forever family.
